What are the benefits of joining?
When you join, you get access to our database of the airports world-wide with an actual or planned rail link - nearly 700 of them. The basic listing, instantly accessible through the Members-only area of the site, gives brief details, including (separately) the funding method. Significantly more information is available to members on request and we are working on ways to enhance its accessibility. You can view a sample from our database on our Database Extract page.
We also have to charge UK Value Added Tax (VAT) at current rates to members based in the UK.
IARO organises, sponsors and co-operates with a number of conferences and workshops. You are entitled to a discount of at least 10% on selected conferences and workshops (in particular, the regular Air Rail Conferences). Most of these include technical site visits - excellent networking opportunities, as well as a chance to see what really works elsewhere. Also included is the free dissemination of your publicity at conferences, exhibitions and trade shows we attend.
You also get a magazine - Air Rail Express - by email six times a year. This has updates on the latest news and developments in the airport railway industry - who is doing what and why. The magazine costs £100 a year to non-members. Advertising rates are available on request: as a member you get a 25% discount on advertising rates. To download a sample edition of Air Rail Express (196KB) please click here.
Every year we publish the IARO Yearbook which describes our world-wide membership - who you are and what you do. You may, if you wish, take advertising space too. The Yearbook goes to members, to industry contacts, to key decision makers, and is also distributed at our conferences and the exhibitions we attend. Excellent free publicity for you! (Note: advertising in the IARO Yearbook is restricted to members only).
You can receive the research reports we publish free of charge (they are normally £250 to non-members). Recent reports have covered cooperation between air and high speed rail, and the impact of a new rail service on airport access mode share.

Who can join?

Membership is multi-modal and multi-national.
 |
40% of our members are UK based (including global companies like Mott MacDonald and Steer Davies Gleave). |
 |
40% are based elsewhere in Europe. |
 |
The remaining 20% are from America, the Far East or Australia. |
 |
A third are railway operators. |
 |
A quarter are airports, very few are airlines (although we are working hard to change this!) |
 |
The rest are manufacturers, conference organisers, consultants or industry groups. |
What does membership cost and how to pay?
It costs £2,000 pounds sterling a year, although there is provision for academic institutions and very small consultancies to get a 75% discount.
Ideally the payment should be in pounds Sterling or US Dollars: if not, its equivalent in your own currency is acceptable. Cheques should be made payable to the International Air Rail Organisation. If you wish to pay by bank transfer, please contact us: details of our Sterling and US Dollar accounts are available on request.
